My name is Mark Kendziorek. I am leading a GSE team from District 5050- Northwestern Washington State and Southern British Columbia, Canada. We depart for Manila on Feb 22, 1 week from today. I hope we cross paths while we are there.

I understand you flew Northwest Airlines. I did everything possible to avoid them- they're called "Northworst" by many people. Anyway, I'm sure the memory of the flight will fade

Cheers,

The last tidbit is also very interesting to me. I greatly value alone time and independence (must be my Swedish heritage) and am curious to see what it will be like to be so constantly involved with other people. I'm sure I'll meet a lot of great people, and we can be alone in our dreams.

Good call on the drying rack! I myself am excited to go shopping for coral jewelry. I'm not sure where I heard that that was big, but coral is one of my favorite stones (if you can call it a stone) and it will be a nice summery gift to bring back to someone in New England in the middle of March.

I'm glad I didn't volunteer to watch that video next. But now you can add to my "worst fears" the notion that when we exit the Manila airport we will be forced to witness a crucifixion reenactment while being spoonfed duck embryos and pig heads. Though I think I could handle the pig heads. Anyway, I'll try to focus on the beautiful scenery and renowned hospitality.

My personal fears:

#1- The food/coffee?- OK I admit it. I am the one who is most concerned about this. The rest of the group are the sleep deprived ones- of course maybe I'll be changing my tune if I don't find some form of coffee on a daily basis! Don't drink, don't smoke but need morning coffee!

#2- Food safety- my job revolves around food safety every day. Juliette cares about your blood pressure (what is that?) I care about food at 40 and 140, out no more than 2 hours, ecoli, bacteria, refrigeration, cook it till it's dead, safe food handling, washing your hands, no hair please...

#3- What am I eating???- Maybe this should be moved to number 1. I need to know what it is I am eating. I am not interested in any Fear Factor adventures. I don't like seafood- allergic to shrimp. Great, so let's spend 4 weeks in a country made up of 7,000 islands!
Not interested in... "the egg", EVERY part of the chicken (from the deep fried cheeks to getting the blood from a street vendor), pigs head- just give me the bacon- I don't need to see him looking at me as I eat it!

I think we just figured out we can carry heavier suitcases- so...mine will be filled with granola bars!

I KNOW --- I TRUSTED that it was safe after a) it came from the library and b) you assured me it wasn't the same (or at least the same cover) as the one you saw! Scarred for life...

And the wierd thing about the Filipino video is that it seems to be available with two different covers ... at least one of which is a "library" version ... whatever happened to a simple video suitable for the Discovery Channel?

I find it interesting that the "issues" facing Philippinos in 2008 would all find resonance in the US except for corruption ... we may live a half a world apart, but I expect we are more alike than not!
